  • There are many different types of therapy. I follow the analogy that one shoe does not fit all. I use modalities I have been trained in and interweave them throughout the work we are doing together.  I approach my sessions using the psychoanalysis, humanistic and psychodynamic theory that looks at understanding the problem, and how it is impacting us. Most often, our behaviours are created due to past experiences.

In my sessions, I used modalities that I have been trained in. I interweave different modalities based on the work we are doing.

  • Reaching out can be hard, maybe one of the hardest steps.

Reaching out to a therapist can be beneficial in various situations. Here are some signs that it might be time to seek help:

    For Yourself:

Persistent Feelings of Sadness or Anxiety: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, sad, or anxious for an extended period.

Difficulty Coping with Daily Life: Struggling to manage everyday responsibilities or routine activities.

Major Life Changes: Experiencing significant changes (e.g., divorce, loss of a loved one, job change) that are hard to cope with.

Changes in Behavior: Noticing changes in sleep, appetite, or energy levels that affect your quality of life.

Trauma: Experienced a traumatic event that is creating a disconnect within your life and challenges to cope with stress or emotions.

Feelings of Isolation or Loneliness: If you’re feeling disconnected from friends or loved ones.

    For Relationships:

Communication Issues: Persistent arguments or difficulties in expressing feelings and needs.

Loss of Connection: Feeling disconnected, intimacy challenges or distant from your partner that you can’t seem to bridge.

Recurrent Patterns: Experiencing the same conflicts or problems repeatedly without resolution.

Differences in Values or Goals: Struggling with fundamental differences that affect the relationship’s dynamics.

Transitions or Stressors: Going through life transitions (e.g., having a child, moving, job loss) that are straining the relationship.

Exploring Personal Growth Together: Wishing to enhance communication and understanding to deepen intimacy.

If you’re feeling uncertain, it’s always okay to reach out for a consultation. Many therapists offer initial assessments to discuss your concerns and determine the best approach.

  • In the first session, we explore building rapport through the assessment. I like to get to know my clients through exploring their past and present. I approach sessions with authenticity, compassion and non-judgment. I use curiosity to explore what is creating the presenting challenge to find the root of the problem.

Remember, the first session is as much about assessing the therapist’s fit for you as it is about receiving guidance. It’s normal to feel a mix of emotions, from nervousness to relief.

  • My hope is for you to heal and learn about yourself. Leaning into vulnerability and courage will be the start of a foundation to healing. Therapy can offer a range of benefits, including:

Improved Mental Health: Therapy can help manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.

Enhanced Self-Awareness: Understanding your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can lead to greater self-awareness and personal growth.

Coping Skills: Therapy provides tools and strategies to cope with life's challenges and stressors effectively.

Better Relationships: It can improve communication skills and provide insights into interpersonal dynamics, enhancing your relationships with others.

Goal Setting: Therapy can help you set and achieve personal goals, whether they're related to mental health, career, or personal development.

Emotional Processing: Discussing feelings in a safe environment allows for the processing of emotions and can lead to healing.

Support: Having a dedicated professional to talk to can provide emotional support and validation.

Overall, therapy can foster resilience and lead to a more fulfilling life by equipping you with the skills to navigate challenges.
